Australian/Brazilian/Russian Updates

E-mail Print PDF

This might not be terribly interesting for you unless you live in Australia, Brazil or Russia, but we have an update on the previous news on how they are being sold there. In short, we reported Russian players will buy “...  half a game”, which comes with a number of months of Battle.net play on a Russia-only limited network, and then has a monthly fee. This can instead be upgraded to be permanent Battle.net access for a combined cost that is about the same as the cost in the rest of Europe. In Brazil they have a similar scheme. Now, that all seems pretty fair. People with less money can pay less to get in to the game, but with limitations. We also asked Frank Pearce in our little interview earlier this week if this same principle would apply to the single player aspects of the game, which otherwise can be played offline. The single player game might be deactivated as well after the initial few “free” months of Battle.net:

Blizzard Quote:
That’s actually something we’re still talking about. We don’t really have a final decision on how we’re gonna handle that. Discussions are still going on, so, we’ll see.
We also reported on our Australian brethren’s predicament of being located very far away from the rest of the Western world, being placed in the South East Asian region to play in. Especially considering people of different regions won’t be able to play with each other any more in the newer games, unless they buy multiple game boxes. Frank said the main reason was really play experience, to avoid high latency, and pointed out many buyers in that region speaks English primarily. There’s no plans on changing Australia’s region at the moment, or letting them (or others) play with any other region.
